PROMOTING GOVERNance and accountability

LICO is dedicated to promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability in the impact communities. Recognising that governance is key to sustainable development, LICO integrates governance principles into both its internal operations and community-based interventions.

In many rural communities, governance gaps are reflected in limited citizen participation in decision-making processes, lack of access to timely information, weak accountability mechanisms, and minimal engagement between local authorities and community members. These challenges often leave vulnerable populations, especially women, youth, and people with disabilities, excluded from processes that affect their lives. Communities also face difficulties in holding leaders accountable due to limited awareness of their rights and the absence of effective feedback and complaint channels.

To address these issues, LICO implements initiatives that strengthen civic engagement and promote responsive leadership. The organisation facilitates dialogue platforms that bring together citizens, local leaders, and service providers to discuss key development issues and promote transparency. Through community sensitisation meetings, radio programmes, and structured feedback mechanisms, LICO raises awareness on governance rights and responsibilities, helping citizens become more informed and active participants in local governance.

At the organisational level, LICO continues to strengthen its systems and structures to uphold transparency, ethical leadership, and efficient resource management. Internal processes are guided by clear policies and procedures that promote accountability, including those related to financial management, safeguarding, and risk reduction.

Furthermore, LICO supports the development of inclusive community structures such as youth clubs, women’s forums, and village action groups. These platforms help amplify local voices, especially from marginalised groups, and ensure that development planning is community-driven and reflective of diverse needs.

Through these interventions, LICO is fostering a culture of accountability and participatory governance. By empowering citizens and promoting inclusive leadership, the organisation contributes to building resilient communities where governance systems are responsive, transparent, and grounded in the realities of the people they serve.
