Life Concern, in collaboration with the Rumphi District Hospital, is making significant strides in improving access to sexual and reproductive health services for young people in Rumphi District. Recognising that distance is a major barrier, LICO organised a comprehensive outreach program in Buwila Community, offering essential services such as HIV testing, STI screening and treatment, cervical screening, and modern contraceptives. To encourage participation, the youth organised sports activities like football and netball, which effectively mobilised their peers.
This initiative is crucial in addressing the high rates of unplanned teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections within the district. By bringing these services directly to the communities, LICO is not only improving the health and well-being of young people but also empowering them with the knowledge and resources needed to make informed decisions about their health. This outreach program represents a significant step towards creating healthier, more informed, and resilient youth in Rumphi District.
