In Rumphi District, the shortage of basic learning materials such as textbooks, notebooks, pens, and pencils has negatively affected classroom participation, lesson comprehension, and overall learner performance. Many pupils are forced to share materials or attend lessons without the essential tools needed to follow instruction, placing them at a disadvantage and widening educational inequalities.
In response to this challenge, Life Concern implemented a targeted education support initiative aimed at strengthening learning conditions in selected rural schools. We donated essential learning materials, including textbooks, notebooks, pens, and pencils to Mlangali, Mchenga, and Jalawe Primary Schools. The intervention was designed to directly support learners from vulnerable households and ease the burden on schools struggling to meet basic educational needs.

The intervention has had a meaningful impact, directly benefiting 928 learners across the three schools. Teachers have reported improved classroom engagement, better lesson follow-up, and increased motivation among learners. Most importantly, the provision of learning materials has helped promote equal access to education, ensuring that no child is left behind due to a lack of basic tools. Through this initiative, Life Concern reaffirmed its commitment to supporting children’s right to quality education and empowering every learner with the opportunity to succeed.

Despite this progress, many more children in rural Malawi continue to attend school without adequate learning materials. Life Concern invites partners, donors, and well-wishers to join us in expanding this support to reach more schools and learners. With collective effort and shared responsibility, we can equip more children with the tools they need to learn, grow, and build a brighter future.
